NEW FOR 2014:
- Mid-cycle refresh with new exterior styling.
- Price reduction across the board.
If you’ve found yourself on this buyer's guide page, chances are you’re looking for a very specific sort of vehicle – something that’s luxurious, can seat seven, and can travel to the far ends of the earth without batting an eyelash. There are very few vehicles that are able to do this. The GX is one of them.
Baby brother to the LX, the GX has been redesigned for 2014 with a look that brings it in line with the rest of the Lexus range. LED headlamps flank the signature Lexus Spindle Grille, while the rear-end styling has been revised with a new bumper and new rear lights.
What hasn’t changed is the GX’s tried and tested underpinnings – it features body-on-frame construction, and has a two-speed transfer case. The former lends the GX a towing capacity of 6,500 lbs, while the latter ensures that you’ll keep moving, even when the going gets rough. Standard KDSS cross-linked stabilizer bars make for a comfortable on-road ride with excellent wheel articulation when traversing rocky terrain.
Power comes from a good ‘ol fashioned V8 engine – a 4.6-litre DOHC mill that puts out 301 horsepower and 329 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic and full-time four-wheel drive are standard on all models.
Every GX 460 comes with 18-inch wheels, LED headlamps, push-button start, illuminated entry system, 120-volt power outlet, Bluetooth, USB ports, dual-zone air conditioning, power moonroof, reverse camera, power 10-way leather seats with heating and ventilation, rain-sensing wipers, mahogany wood trim, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with stereo controls on a power tilt and telescoping steering column.
The GX 460 Premium adds rear air suspension, a 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, tri-zone climate control, premium leather upholstery, wood and leather-wrapped steering wheel, navigation, heated second-row seats, a power-folding third-row seat, rear cross-traffic alert, power folding mirrors, and more.
The Ultra Premium Package builds on the Premium model with a heavy-duty transmission cooler, 4-wheel crawl control with multi-terrain select, heated steering wheel, rear-seat entertainment system, radar cruise control with pre-collision warning, around-view camera, air-conditioned cooler box, and different 18-inch alloy wheels.
